You Can’t Outwork Grief: My Story, My Healing, My Freedom
Today, I’m sharing something that has been sitting in my heart. I officially launched my book; You Can’t Outwork Grief: My Journey Through the Wilderness. This isn’t just a book, it’s a testimony. It’s the story of what happened when I tried to keep moving while my heart was breaking. It’s what I learned when grief met leadership, when strength met surrender, and when God met me in the wilderness.
For a long time, I believed the answer to pain was productivity. If I stayed busy, if I stayed focused, if I kept showing up for everyone else, then maybe I wouldn’t have to feel the weight of what I was carrying. I've learned that grief doesn’t respond to effort. Grief responds to truth. And healing begins when we stop pretending. This book was written from the most honest place in me. It’s for the person who is trying to hold it together. It’s for the one who keeps showing up to work with a smile, but cries in silence at night. It’s for the one who feels guilty for laughing again, and the one who feels stuck in the heaviness of missing someone they love deeply.
I wrote You Can’t Outwork Grief because I needed it. And I’m sharing it because I know someone else needs it too. I wrote this book as I exited my wilderness season, one that changed me forever. It didn’t happen the way I expected, it came through a promotion, a relocation, isolation, and loss that shook my world. My relocation to East Texas became my wilderness, and in that wilderness, God slowed me down on purpose.
He taught me how to rest.
He taught me how to surrender.
He taught me how to feel again.
He taught me how to live again.
This book is the result of that journey. It’s not a perfect story. It’s not a “quick healing” story. It’s real. It’s messy. It’s faithful. And its proof that you can make it to the other side of grief by trusting God and your journey. This book is part encouragement, part reflection, and part spiritual reset. My prayer is that it becomes a safe space for you the way God created it for me. I’ll be honest, finishing this book required courage. I procrastinated near the end because vulnerability can feel exposing. But God reminded me of something I now live by:
Vulnerability is freedom. And I want you to have that freedom too.
Freedom to cry.
Freedom to slow down.
Freedom to breathe again.
Freedom to heal at your own pace.
Freedom to live again.
